World’s most strictly tested US military-grade laptop durability1

From 2023 onwards, ASUS consumer laptops2 will be strictly tested according to the latest, most-demanding MIL-STD 810H US military-grade standard with 12 test methods and 26 test procedures to ensure maximum reliability and durability. ASUS consumer laptops undergo the world’s most extensive and strictest US military-grade testing, so you can be assured that your ASUS consumer laptop is durable and reliable. This enhances your laptop’s longevity, and hence its sustainability. The number of tests passed by each consumer laptop model can be found in the ASUS quality test report for that model.

Our full test suite of 12 test methods and 26 test procedures includes tests simulating operation in harsh environmental conditions — including extremes of altitude, temperature and humidity — along with physical vibration and shock tests designed to mimic rough day-to-day handling.

Durability Tests

Above and beyond the ordinary

All ASUS laptops also undergo a barrage of grueling durability tests designed to push them to their physical limits. These tests ensure that every component of your laptop gives you long and reliable service, no matter how tough the going gets. We pound the keyboard with up to 10 million keystrokes, torture the hinges with up to 20,000 open-and-close cycles, subject the chassis to 50,000 twisting tests to mimic those one-handed dashes to the meeting room, and ensure the touchscreen has a precise and consistent response.
We also connect and disconnect the I/O ports 5,000 times for endurance, and check that performance isn’t affected by cable quality. Finally, we pressure test the display using a 25 kg force on the lid and the underside of the chassis. Only if it survives all these is a laptop deemed worthy of the ASUS badge.

ASUS laptops are thoroughly drop- and shock-tested tested to ensure they can survive minor accidents without serious internal or external damage. They’re also subjected to vibration tests that simulate transportation and travel, so your laptop’s more likely to arrive in full working order even after the toughest journey.

Extreme Environmental Tests

Built to endure, anywhere

Extremes of temperature, altitude and humidity can be bad news for a laptop, so ASUS laptops go through a series of tough climatic tests to make sure they can survive in harsh environments, whether they’re turned on or off. We bake them at desert-like temperatures up to 60°C, freeze them down to a super-chilly -30°C, subject them to a steamy 90% humidity, and check if they can survive at dizzying altitudes of 40,000 feet — nearly twice as high as Mount Everest!

Noise and Audio Test

Silence is golden

The ASUS Golden Ear team designs and fine-tunes all ASUS laptop audio systems for the best possible sound, so we make a special effort to ensure you don’t hear anything else apart from audio. ASUS has its own ISO-7779-compliant audio testing facility, where our engineers perform extensive noise testing to minimize the noise from fans and other components.

EMI Test

Safety is based on electronics products for not interference with each other

ASUS laptops undergo extensive EMI (electromagnetic interference) tests to meet the requirements of EU Electromagnetic compatibility regulations EN55032 and EN55035, and also obtain EMI certificates from third party laboratories. Users could enjoy excellent operating experience even when multiple devices are working simultaneously.

Electrostatics Discharge (ESD) Test

Testing standard over EU standard

ASUS laptops have electrostatic protection capability up to 1.5 times the contact discharge voltage, 1.25 times the air discharge voltage of the EU electrostatic discharge regulation EN 61000-4-2. The number of test for each part is more than 10 times of the regulatory requirements, ensuring that the laptops have strong electrostatic protection even in harsh environments. ASUS products undergo a thermal shock test that implies the electrostatic protection capabilities of those products still hold after two year of usage.

WiFi performance is tuned for all ASUS laptops, and selected models also incorporate ASUS WiFi Master, including exclusive technology that optimizes WiFi range. WiFi Master gives you the fastest and most reliable WiFi performance from your laptop, so you can enjoy reliable connections and smooth streaming of high-definition online videos at greater distances than ever before, without interference. ASUS laptops are tested for thermal shock before leaving the factory to ensure two years of WIFI performance and reliability.

  1. Selected products are tested using enhanced military-grade MIL-STD-810H durability standards, with up to 12 test methods and 26 test procedures, to ensure extraordinary toughness. Based on ASUS internal market research using available information and testing reports from main laptop brand websites on Oct 28, 2022, ASUS consumer laptops use a regime consisting of 26 test procedures, which is the consumer laptop industry’s strictest and most extensive test regime for the MIL-STD-810H standard.
  2. The testing regime includes the requirements of both military-grade standards and ASUS quality tests, and varies depending on device. MIL-STD-810 testing is conducted on selected ASUS products only. Note that the MIL-STD-810 testing helps to ensure the quality of ASUS products but does not indicate a particular fitness for military use. The test is performed under laboratory conditions. Any damage caused by attempts to replicate these test conditions would be considered accidental, and would not be covered by the standard ASUS warranty.
