In the biggest redesign in its history, the ROG phones 8 series has evolved from its gaming-centric origins into a futuristic and premium device, with a slimmer, lighter body, and thinner bezels that make it an ideal lifestyle phones for gamers. Designed to cater to gamers, streamers, content creators and beyond, it is conceived as an all-in-one solution that distinguishes itself with gaming-friendly features that also combines with unparalleled AI-driven capabilities, premium aesthetics, and everyday usability. This reimagined smartphones series surpasses conventional standards, offering cutting-edge technology, innovative design, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional user experience.
Beyond gaming
The ROG phones 8 series has been reimaged, preserving the console-like gaming experience with the inclusion of built-in Air Trigger controls while expanding its appeal to individuals in search of a versatile device. The new design is up to 15% thinner than the previous generation, without sacrificing performance. The emphasis on premium design and durability ensures that these devices are not just phoness; they are statements of sophistication and power. Speaking of power, it boasts an extensive battery life featuring a massive 5500mAh battery, where users can enjoy uninterrupted gaming for up to two days. Unbridled performance
At the core of the ROG phones 8 series lies the potent Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 mobiles Platform, supported by 8533 Mbps LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage for unmatched performance. This platform delivers 25% better GPU performance and 25% improved power efficiency. Equipped with Snapdragon Elite Gaming™ features, it offers desktop-level performance, elevated graphics, and lightning-fast speeds on the ROG phones 8. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the first mobiles platform to support and showcase optimized Unreal Engine 5 Lumen running on mobiles. With hardware accelerated ray-tracing, Snapdragon Elite Gaming enhances mobiles lighting effects, allowing multi-source lighting, shadows, and reflections, creating stunning in-game realism.
To prevent overheating during extended gaming sessions, the revolutionary Rapid-Cooling Conductor design — part of the advanced GameCool 8 thermal design — efficiently channels heat from the device’s center to its back cover. The AeroActive Cooler X clip-on cooler is now 29% smaller but offers 1.2X higher thermal efficiency, reducing the back cover temperature by up to 36°C.
Ultra-bright display
The ROG phones 8 Pro series features a brand-new 6.78” flexible AMOLED (Samsung E6) panel with adaptive refresh rates using LTPO technology. It adjusts from 1 120Hz depending on the current tasks to save power, while users can also choose up to a 165Hz refresh rate for smooth gaming. With a touch sampling rate that can reach up to 720Hz and a peak brightness of 2500 nits, it ensures instant response and visibility even in sunlight. The superb visuals are tuned in collaboration with leading visual-processing company Pixelworks® for world-beating color accuracy.
Pro-level AI cameras
The ROG phones 8 series presents gamers and creators with an advanced tri-camera system, delivering a wide range of photographic possibilities enhanced by AI features, including:
- The AI Object Sense function, which segments the image into various components – like sky, sea, and sand – and then adjusts the contrast and saturation separately for each segment, creating vivid yet realistic visuals.
- Light Trail Mode utilizes AI-driven multi-frame image stacking to produce stunning long-exposure handheld shots.
- Semantic Search in Gallery App enables natural language for photo search. For instance, you can say “Display my sunset photos taken in Tokyo” and the system will locate the most relevant matches for you.
- OZO Audio technology allows users to eliminate wind noise for clear outdoor recordings or capture immersive 3D Surround spatial audio.
- Quick Shot swiftly seizes the moment with a double press on the volume key: the camera instantly takes three photos, ensuring you never miss any crucial moments.
For the first time, the ROG phones 8 series includes a 3X telephoto lens for capturing distant objects. The lens is equipped with built-in OIS and delivers crisp and sharp results, even in low-light conditions with Night Photography mode. ASUS HyperClarity technology maintains photo detail using unprocessed (RAW) files, providing clearer images up to 30X zoom. During video shooting, the telephoto camera employs adaptive EIS to produce stable results with up to a 10X zoom. The 13 MP ultrawide camera has a free-form lens and cutting-edge algorithms to reduce lens distortion, resulting in stunning yet natural images.
The front 32 MP ultrawide selfie camera has a field of view (FoV) that's been increased from 73° to 90° to make it perfect for group selfies. The lens has an RGBW sensor that ensures images are clean with less noise, even in low light.
AI-enhanced features
Four gaming-friendly AI features in the ROG phones 8 series elevate the gaming experience to a new level. With Background Mode, X Capture, AI Grabber, and X Sense, gamers can seamlessly shift games to the background, capture key moments, and receive tips and assistance. AI Grabber can now extract texts directly from games using Machine-Learning Recognition technology, and X Capture, and X Sense 2.0 now support additional top games with AI Pattern Recognition technology. Other AI-powered features include AI Wallpaper1, which can create amazing-looking wallpapers using Stable Diffusion technology, and AI noise-cancelation technology, which supports bidirectional noise cancelation for crystal-clear sound in voice calls, video calls, and in-game communications2.
AniMe Vision
The new ROG phones 8 series includes unique customizable elements, including the Aura RGB Lighting logo (ROG phones 8) and Anime Vision Mini-LED display (ROG phones 8 Pro), that allow owners to express their individuality and creativity. AniMe Vision is a 341-element display that can display preset or user-created animations. Users can also unlock secret animations by touching their phones back-to-back with another ROG phones 8 Pro.
